A Yoga Lesson: Carry On
Ok, so yoga was awesome today! It was not because of any poses that we did or how I felt or did. It was awesome because it just was. You see, we had a new teacher today, and she could not figure anything out about the room. She was super nice, but it was really funny.
First, her cd was scratched. So, every 5 minutes it would start to skip and repeat. Now, when you’re trying to relax in some pose, the repetition of the cd over and over was like someone coming over and poking you every 5 minutes. I found it hilarious though.
Second, after about the 4th time the cd skipped, she decided just to turn the music off. Well, the yoga room is right next to the weight/equipment room. All the people working out like to listen to music to pump them up. So now, without our calming music to drown out the energetic music, we could only hear the loud rock rock/pop music from next door.
Third (or maybe just a continuation of the 2nd one), at the end of class when we were lying down for corpse/rest all we could hear is the song ‘Carry on Wayward Son’ by Kansas. Even though it isn’t very relaxing, it was still a very fitting song. Here we are trying to relax and leave our stress behind, and Kansas is telling us to Carry On. I thought it was great!

brrrrrr
I wasn’t really mentally into my run today. That’s probablly why I went so slow and didn’t go very far. Oh well, these things happen.

side pain
I had bad side pain during my run today. That’s what I get for running in the afternoon instead of the morning. I had to take my car in this morning to the shop, so I didn’t have time to run before work. Hopefully, nothing comes up on Thursday and I can run during the morning like I usually do.

chilly water
I had a nice swim today. I did 10 laps (25 meter laps) of breaststroke, and then I did some drills. The water was pretty chilly today, so I only did 25 minutes (instead of 30).

swim with my mom
Before diner, my mom and I went for a swim at one of the rec pools. We had a pretty stressful day, so it was the perfect way to relax. I did some breaststroke laps, and then some drills.

Dallas Turkey Trot
I ran the Dallas Turkey Trot 5k today! I’m pretty happy with my time considering my sickness last week. I’ve been running in this race since high school. I think this is the 7th time I’ve run it. My mom and I run it, and sometimes other people come to. It’s definitelly my favorite Thansgiving tradition!! I did the 8 mile race one year, but I decided to just do the 3 mile one today.
My goal this fall has been to create a good base of running, swimming, and yoga, so I haven’t concentrated on running as much as I used to. I really just want to be heathly, injury free and to maintain working out for years to come. I feel like I’ve really accomplished this goal! I’m going to just keep concentrating on improving on each one slowly. I’ve really been enjoying the workouts and feel so much healthier! I’m glad I’ve finally figured out a workout/fitness routine that works for me!!
Oh, I finally took my camera to the race this year. Myabe I’ll upload some pictures when I get home next week. [Update: Pics uploaded here]

lil run
I did a lil run today. I didn’t want to push myself and make myself sick again, so I kind of took it easy. I’m probably just being paranoid about getting sick again, but I’ve had a tendency in the past to get sick, get better in a few days, run again, and then get really sick for a month. So, I’m trying to not do the last step this time.
I made sure to be really warm today, and I didn’t even get overheated. I hope that helps keep me well. We’ll see how I feel tomorrow though.

still a little under the weather
I was sick last week, so I waited until I felt better to exercise again. I felt great when I was swimming, but when I started to do yoga I could feel that my body is still recuperating. So, I only did 30 minutes of yoga instead of an hour because I didn’t want to push my body too much. Pushing is great when you aren’t sick, but no so much when you are.
In other news, it was a beautiful day today and I just wanted to go out and run. Too bad I never have enough time on Monday’s to run. Here’s hoping it’s beautiful tomorrow as well when I run then. I’ve really been enjoying my workouts before I got sick. It was so hard to not do anything and just lie in bed all day.
